How to Burn a CD using CD Burner XP Pro
Most people get a CD burner software package with the purchase new CD-RW drives or PCs, but if you don't have one for Windows, it can be expensive to obtain. Many free utilities that support burning music or data are available (and of course WinXP does it natively), but do not handle the ISO files needed to install SME Server. If you're in this situation, read on.
CDBurner XP Pro is CD/DVD burner software for all recent versions of Windows. Freeware, it is clean and professional in appearance, and can handle burning ISOs to CD. It is available from 
here. Please be sure to read the licensing info during the install. The website has a long list of CD burner drives that have been tested with the software - see if yours is among them!
Once you have CDBurnerXP Pro downloaded and installed, here are the steps to burn an ISO file with it:
1) If the "New Data/Audio Disc" dialog box doesn't open automatically when you launch the program, click the "New" icon in the toolbar.
2) Click the "Burn ISO" icon in the "New Data/Audio Disc" dialog box.
3) The "ISO Writer 2" dialog box opens. Choose the drive you want to use from the drop-down list at the top.
4) Use the "..." button to navigate to the location of the SME Server ISO file. You will most likely have better results if this file is on your local (C:\) hard disk. Select the file and click "Open" in the "Open ISO File" dialog box that appears.
5) You can leave the other settings in the "ISO Writer 2" dialog box alone - just use the default settings.
6) Make sure you have a blank CD in the drive. If something opens when you put the disk into the drive, just close it.
7) Click the "Write ISO" button.
It doesn't get much easier than this! Click OK in the dialog box that says "Ejecting disk" when it appears. The drive will eject the disk.
You can check the disk by putting it back in and navigating to it in Windows Explorer - you should see files and folders on the CD instead of one ISO file. Remember to eject it again before rebooting, or the SME Server install will start (you can cancel it if it does).
